20 Free Crochet Hanukkah Patterns (Dreidels, Menorahs, Stars and Gelt Pouches)

Looking for free crochet Hanukkah patterns? Here are 20 of them: menorahs (including a soft one kids can "light" themselves), dreidels big and small, Star of David ornaments, coasters and a garland, drawstring pouches for gelt, and a cozy menorah blanket. Every pattern is free with no sign-up. Hanukkah 2026 begins on the evening of Friday, December 4, so there's plenty of time to make a gift for each of the eight nights.

For each pattern I've noted the yarn weight, hook size and finished size where the designer gives them. Thirteen are written out right on the designer's page. The other seven are free PDF downloads from Yarnspirations, the pattern site of Red Heart, Bernat and Aunt Lydia's: you open the product page and click the free pattern download, with no account needed. I've marked those (free PDF).

A quick guide to choosing: for a first project, make a Star of David ornament or a flat dreidel. Both take under an hour and use scraps. For a gift that kids will love, the interactive menorah wall hanging and the dreidel softies are hard to beat. If you have a few weeks, a menorah pillow or blanket square becomes an heirloom you bring out every December.

Menorahs

Interactive Hanukkah Menorah β€” SeeLoveShare. A soft wall hanging with pocket candle holders. Nine stuffed candles slide in and out, so little ones can "light" a new candle each night. It's about 18 by 14 inches, in DK baby yarn on a 4mm hook, mostly single crochet rows with stitch counts, with the candles and flames worked in rounds. Rated beginner to confident beginner. My favorite on the list.

Child's Menorah β€” Red Heart (free PDF). A stuffed, play-safe menorah about 10 by 10 inches, by Robyn Chachula. It's worked in Super Saver worsted on a 5mm hook in joined single crochet rounds, and rated easy. Perfect for a toddler who wants a menorah of their own.

Menorah Pillow β€” Red Heart (free PDF). An 18-inch square pillow in half double crochet rows, with a menorah worked onto the front, on 5.5mm and 6mm hooks. Rated easy. A lovely way to dress the sofa for the holiday.

Hanukkah Menorah Filet Panel β€” Cosy Rosie Crochet. A filet crochet panel about 18 by 22 inches, in worsted or Aran yarn on a 5.5mm hook. Each row is 64 double crochet, and the page gives the chart, a written chart and fully written rows. Rated easy. The designer is British, so the page shows US terms with UK terms in brackets. It's one panel from a holiday blanket; the PDF of all the panels is paid, but this panel is free.

Hanukkah Menorah C2C Square β€” Ambassador Crochet. A corner-to-corner graphgan square, 25 by 25 blocks, in white, gray and a little yellow worsted on an H/5mm hook. The free page gives the chart plus all 49 diagonal rows as color counts. It assumes you already know the C2C stitch (the fully written version is sold separately). Make one as a pillow front or as part of a blanket.

Dreidels

Dreidel Softie β€” crochet by faye. A tiny stuffed dreidel, about 1 by 2 inches, from about 50 yards of cotton on a 3.5mm hook. It's 11 joined rounds of single crochet plus a little stem, with the Hebrew letters embroidered in floss. An old blog post, but a sweet, simple one.

Amigurumi Dreidel and Gelt β€” Curiously Crafted Creations. Two patterns in one: an amigurumi dreidel worked in spiral single crochet rounds with color changes and a spiral handle, plus soft gelt coins in three sizes. Worsted scraps on a G/4mm hook. The designer notes it wasn't test-crocheted, so count your stitches as you go.

Flat Crochet Dreidel β€” Jewish Moms & Crafters. A quick flat dreidel worked in single crochet rows, with a stem and a contrasting border, in worsted yarn on a 4–5mm hook. Rated easy, about 30 minutes. Use it as a gift tag, an appliquΓ© or a bag charm, or make two and stuff them. There's a video to follow, and the full rows are on the printable card on the page.

Dreidel Bobble Stitch Pillow β€” SeeLoveShare. A 16-inch pillow cover with a raised bobble-stitch dreidel, in worsted yarn on a 5.5mm hook, written row by row (53 stitches per row) with single crochet edging rounds you can add to fit a bigger insert. Rated intermediate. The color graph is in a paid PDF, but the written rows are free.

Crochet Dreidel Hat β€” Repeat Crafter Me. A beanie shaped like a dreidel, stem and all, in worsted yarn on an H or I hook, in sizes from newborn to teen and adult. It's worked in joined double crochet rounds with counts for every size, finished with felt letters from a free template. Adorable for Hanukkah photos.

Stars of David

Simple Star of David β€” SeeLoveShare. Two overlapping triangles made from a chain ring and one round of half double and double crochet, about 4 inches across, in DK yarn on a 4mm hook. Rated beginner. Use it as an ornament, a gift topper or an appliquΓ©.

White Star of David Ornament β€” Red Heart (free PDF). Another two-triangle star, in half double crochet on a 5mm hook, rated easy. Make it in white with a touch of metallic yarn to hang in a window.

Star Coasters β€” Red Heart (free PDF). Six-pointed star coasters about 7 inches point to point, on a 3.75mm hook, rated easy. A set of four in blue and white is a great hostess gift for a latke party.

Star of David Filet Panel β€” Cosy Rosie Crochet. A companion to the menorah panel above: 18 by 22 inches, 64 double crochet per row, worsted or Aran yarn on a 5.5mm hook, rated easy, with the written chart on the page. Make both and join them for a wall hanging.

Snowflake Star Garland β€” Sarahndipities. Six-pointed star motifs worked in five joined rounds, in worsted yarn on an I/5.5mm hook, then strung on a crochet chain. In blue and white or silver they make a simple Hanukkah garland for a mantel or doorway.

Hanukkah Banner β€” Aunt Lydia's (free PDF). A 48-inch banner of Star of David motifs in size 10 crochet thread on a 3.75mm hook. Rated intermediate. Thread work takes patience, but the result looks like fine lace.

Gelt pouches, blankets and gifts

Sweet Striped Pouch for Gelt and Gifts β€” Creative Jewish Mom. A drawstring pouch about 5 by 6 inches in cotton yarn, worked in the round: a flat single crochet circle base, striped sides, an eyelet round for the drawstring and a picot edge. The page explains the increase method rather than giving stitch counts for each round. Fill it with chocolate coins.

Gift of Gelt Bag β€” Red Heart (free PDF). A 5-inch bag in spiral single crochet with a star appliquΓ©, on 3.75mm and 5mm hooks, rated easy. Make one for every child at the table.

C2C Menorah Blanket β€” Bernat (free PDF). A big corner-to-corner blanket, about 51 by 59 inches, in super bulky Bernat Blanket yarn on an 8mm hook, worked from a chart. Rated intermediate. The bulky yarn makes it faster than it looks, so you can still finish by December 4 if you start soon.

Crochet Hanukkah Gnome β€” Winding Road Crochet. A 7-inch gnome with a Star of David on its hat, holding a little menorah made from nine painted toothpicks. Red Heart Super Saver on a 3.5mm hook, in continuous single crochet rounds with counts (the designer labels them "rows"). Videos are included.

Tips for crocheting for Hanukkah

  • Plan for eight nights. Small makes like stars, dreidels and gelt bags are perfect for one gift each night. Start the bigger pillow or blanket first.
  • Choose festive colors. Blue, white and silver are classic. A metallic thread held with your main yarn adds sparkle to stars and garlands.
  • Make it safe for little ones. For babies and toddlers, embroider faces and letters instead of using safety eyes or glue, and keep the toothpick menorah for older kids.
  • Keep it away from the flames. Crochet decor is lovely near the menorah, but keep yarn garlands and table mats well back from real candles.

Frequently asked questions

What can I crochet for Hanukkah?

Popular projects are dreidels, menorahs, Star of David ornaments and coasters, gelt pouches, and blue and white blankets. A dreidel or star takes under an hour, which makes them easy gifts for each night.

What is the easiest crochet Hanukkah pattern for a beginner?

The SeeLoveShare Simple Star of David uses just a chain ring and one round. The Jewish Moms & Crafters flat dreidel is all single crochet rows. Both are quick and use scrap yarn.

Are the Yarnspirations Hanukkah patterns really free?

Yes. On each product page there's a free pattern download, a PDF that opens without an account or sign-up. Some of the yarns listed in older patterns are discontinued, so substitute any yarn of the same weight.

When should I start my Hanukkah crochet gifts?

Hanukkah 2026 begins on the evening of December 4. Start a blanket or pillow by early November. Ornaments, dreidels and gelt bags can be made the week before.
