Looking for a free crochet mushroom pattern? Here are 25 of them: classic red-and-white toadstools, tiny minis for garlands and earrings, mushroom friends with sweet faces, giant cuddle plushies, cottagecore pillows and coasters, a fairy mushroom house, and even a mushroom bucket hat and bag. Every pattern is free in full on the designer's own site, with written rounds and stitch counts and no sign-up. Most are quick, use scraps, and make lovely little gifts.
Almost every mushroom starts the same way: 6 single crochet in a magic ring, then increase rounds for the cap. If you can work in the round and stuff a shape, you can make any toy on this list. I've noted the yarn, hook, finished size and first round for each pattern so you can pick one that fits the yarn you already have. Many of these designers also sell an optional ad-free PDF, but the full pattern is free on the page.

Frequently asked questions
What yarn is best for crochet mushrooms?
Cotton or a smooth acrylic gives the crispest stitches and the firmest shape for small toadstools. Use a hook a size or two smaller than the label suggests so the stuffing doesn't show through. For big, cuddly plushies, blanket or chenille yarn is soft and works up fast.
How do you make a crochet mushroom stand up?
Crochet a flat circle for the base of the stem and stuff the stem firmly. A few poly pellets in a small bag at the bottom add weight, as in the Chonky Mushroom Softie. Some patterns, like The Fun Guys, include their own tip for this.
How do you add white spots to a crochet mushroom?
You have three options: crochet small circles and sew them on, glue on felt circles (fine for decor, not for baby toys), or embroider them with a few satin stitches in white yarn. Sewn or embroidered spots hold up best to play.
Are crochet mushrooms safe for babies?
For babies and toddlers, skip safety eyes and glued felt, embroider the face instead, and sew every piece on very securely. Thread minis and earrings are too small for little ones.
